Offsite Search Engine Optimization
February 19th, 2007 by CourtOk here are the basics of offsite search engine optimization!
This is a super debated issue and people argue relentlessly about the right and wrongs of making this work. The honest truth is that offsite SEO is about links, links, and more links. As you get more sites to link to yours, your position in Google, Yahoo, and MSN will go up! Getting links from other sites is more important than anything else you can do.
There are tons of ways to get links, but some are a lot more effective than others. In this lesson, we will discuss the most effective ways of getting links that will actually make a difference. Here you go!
Blogging Naturally Creates Links
When you publish a blog entry, you should let the blog search engines know about the new entry. You can go to www.pingomatic.com and type in the URL of your site. You will then click a button that says ’send pings’ and they will let all of the blog search engines know that you have published a new entry. As people read your blog, some of them will naturally link to you. If your site doesn’t have a blog, I would highly recommend adding one.
Bonus: If you are running a Wordpress blog, you can configure it to automatically let the blog search engines know about your new post. You login to your admin section and go to ‘options’ and then ‘Writing’. Down at the bottom you will copy this URL: http://rpc.pingomatic.com/ and paste it into the update services box. Everytime you post, it will let the blog search engines know automatically!
Writing Articles
Webmasters everywhere are always searching for material they can add to their site. You can write articles, adding links to your site at the bottom. They will publish them - with your links.
Good articles can be picked up be a few hundred sites. Here is a link that will take you to an article that I wrote: example article This site picked it up, and if you look closely down at the bottom, you will see that there are two links to one of my sites. That article got published a few hundred times!
To find sites that you can submit your article to, you should search for ‘article directories’ in Google. You will be able to find a few hundred sites, and it will be absolutely free.
If you want to save yourself a ton of time, you can use a service to market your articles. Article Marketer will submit your article to about 500 sites. I use the service because it saves me eight hours everytime I use it. (It takes me 8 hours to submit my article to about 100 sites) The service isn’t free, but it well worth the cost if you can afford it.
Recap
Overall, those two methods are by far the best. They save you a lot of time, and are really effective.
Other Methods
Link Exchanges - You agree to link to a site in order to get them to link to yours.
Forum Marketing - You post messages in forums. In your messages you create links to your site.
Blog Commenting - Many blogs will allow you to make links when you post comments.
