Day 2 – 60 Minutes of Cardio
February 28th, 2007 by Court
Day 2 was exactly what I thought it would be, a huge test of will. I felt just a little bit tired waking up, which of course was because I had spent 90 minutes of the previous day on the elliptical trainer. After showering I actually felt pretty good, though.
About 30 minutes after I woke up, I headed to the gym for my first cardio session of the day. I chose to do the elliptical trainer again; it’s probably the only one I’ll be doing during the next 12 days. It seems to be a lot easier on my joints than running on a flat treadmill. I actually felt really good during the first training session; I had a lot of energy and my legs were feeling pretty good. I ended up staying for 45 easy minutes.
It was during the second training session that my body started to struggle. My workout partner picked me up and we headed to the gym. On Tuesdays we usually do a lot of heavy upper body lifting. We worked out our chests and triceps for about an hour. Since we’ve been playing in a basketball league, we decided a few weeks ago that we would start doing some squats and hamstring curls and we did those after.
Doing the squats was pretty difficult for me. My legs felt a lot more tired than usual; this wasn’t at all surprising considering the fact the I had done 90 minutes of cardio yesterday, and 45 minutes today. I pushed through the exhaustion and did the same amount of sets and reps as always.
After we finished our leg workout, we hit the elliptical trainer again. This was by far the hardest part of the day. Mentally I was feeling pretty drained and my legs were just plain smoked. I turned the resistance way down and pushed through it. After about 20 minutes of pure exhaustion my legs loosened up and actually felt pretty good. I did 10 more minutes, and we called it a day.
I ended up with 75 minutes of cardio for the day. A few hours after my second workout, I started to feel really drained. I knew that it would be a hard day, I’m pretty much just glad that it’s over. For day three I’m going to keep the cardio time at 60 minutes, I’m tired of over-achieving! 15 minutes of the cardio will be walking during day 3.
