How to Make Money on the Internet - Blogging
April 13th, 2007 by CourtThe internet is full of ways to make money and there are a lot of different approaches you can take to make money on the internet. Let me introduce you to blogging - more specifically let me explain to you how people make money with this fairly new method (think 5 years, not 5 months).
What Exactly Is Blogging Anyway?
According to Wikipedia:
A blog is a user-generated website where entries are made in journal style and displayed in a reverse chronological order.
In plainer English, a blog is a website that shows the newest entries at the beginning, usually on the homepage. This website is a blog, and for that reason you will always find my newest writing on the homepage, at the top. As you scroll down, you will find the other entries I have written, newest to oldest.
What Are Blogs About?
There are blogs about everything! This blog teaches people how to make money using the internet. There are blogs about sports, news, fitness, cooking, humor, teaching, parenting, celebrities, and everything else you can imagine.
Blogs are a great format for news sites. Since blogs show the newest entries first, readers can easily find the most recent news stories. Bloggers (those who blog) post news about every industry, and provide their own opinions on the subject matter.
When blogs first started, they were created primarily to be online journals, but have now evolved into websites about anything and everything.
How To People Make Money Blogging?
The simple answer to that question is that blogs get traffic and convert it into money. Getting traffic is very possible with a blog, in fact it’s much easier to get traffic to a blog than it is to get traffic on traditional websites. Traffic is a subject that I won’t discuss here, but if you’re interested in that you can see the promoting your blog section of the site.
Blogs can develop quite a following by people interested in the blog’s industry. Popular blogs can get thousands of hits per day. Gizmodo, Engadget, and Perez Hilton are three mega popular blogs which all get hundreds of thousands of visitors per day.
The traffic of most blogs is converted to money through advertising. That probably sounds difficult to you if you’re new, but it’s actually really easy. The primary revenue streams of most blogs are:
- Ad-Boxes
- Google Adsense - Anyone can sign up for this service and it’s 100% free to use. Google will display ads on your blog and pay you when they get clicked on. This is by far the easiest way to make money with your blog. If you look closely at my pages you will find ad units labeled ‘Ads by Google’.
- Yahoo! Publishing - Yahoo’s version of Adsense. Yahoo’s version is also free to use.
- Contextual Ads - These are ads that are displayed throughout the text of your blog. If you look closely through my pages you will see links that are double underlined. These are actually ads and if you hover over them, a little ad-box will pop up. The contextual ad company will pay for clicks on the links or the ad-box.
- Affiliate Programs - Many bloggers sell products and services for other sites and receive appropriate commissions. There are tons of sites out there that offer free, affiliate programs including:
- Text Links - Bloggers can sell links from there pages to other websites. Most bloggers that use this kind of revenue stream use a company called text-link-ads.com. Their service is free to use and their company will sell the ads for you. The sites that purchase them pay monthly, and you get paid monthly.
- Direct Sales - Some bloggers sell their own products and services.
How Much Can A Person Make Blogging?
That’s really tough question to answer. Some blogs create $500,000 per year and some make $0. The amount a person can make with a blog depend on a lot of factors including:
- Blogger’s Knowledge and Experience
- Quality and Quantity of Blog’s Information
- Marketing
- Determination
- Longevity
- Luck (This isn’t a joke but it is of course possible to create luck.)
I think that it’s very possible to create an income in the high five and even six figures for individuals that posses the right talent and determination. If you are thinking about becoming a blogger, you should visit this article: Making Money Online - Is This Business For You?
In my opinion, blogging is the easiest of all the methods of making money online, at least for beginners. It is also a stepping stone for those wishing to move onto more difficult online, money-making methods. If you’re interested in starting a blog, you should read this: 5263 Words On Starting A Profitable Blog. It provides the basics of getting a blog set up to make money on the internet.

Debt Net Branch Blog
My blog tells all about this income opportunity for mortgage brokers to open a debt net branch location anywhere in the US.
I also have many discussions about debt settlement and debt consolidation. How is the best way to get traffic to my blog and have people join in on the discussion?

One growing way people are making money on the web is the growth of corporate sponsored contests for content. One example is pizza hut is having a contest giving away $25,000 (www.pizzahut.com/vpofpizza) for a fan made video. Other companies are doing the same thing for videos or writing on blogs. It is getting to the point that a talented person could actually make a decent living making content for these companies.

I am a little hesitant at the moment to pay for my blog hosting. I have websites with adsense and a free hosting blog account. I as many others have put advertising on my site in the hope someone would click an ad here or there. I cannot believe though that we as bloggers flatly refuse when we go to other blogs or sites to click on the advertisements there. Are bloggers adsense blind. I personally enjoy going to sites reading them and then having a look at the advertisements as they often spark my interest. Why don’t other bloggers? So hence you can see my reasoning.

Great write up here. I think it’s interesting to note upon visiting many popular magazine and other sites, they actually use Wordpress to build the site. So a blogging platform can basically build your website easier

Do you really get paid for the time you’ve spent in browsing! The answer would be No!. Why can’t you try if you get monthly 10,000 $ just by reference - could you believe this! Forex Makes this possible. No worry about coding or placing ads in your site. Just earn by reference.

My blog has been running for the end of July 2007, initially with Adsense and Amazon, with links to some of my other writings on Helium and Triond.
Drawing readership for my articles was my original purpose for getting a blog up and running, as I hadn’t even considered being able to make money directly from my blog.
I recently disabled Adsense from my site as I decided to use Traffic Exchanges to try and draw some visitors, and, as far as I can tell, Adsense don’t like you using Traffic Exchanges, but, to be honest I have earned more from the Traffic Exchanges in one week than I earn through Adsense in 3 months.
I have a few referral links to sites such as Ciao, Mylot, EasyHits4u etc, but have only managed to attract one person to join one of my programs.
The problems I have encountered have largely been disjointed information overload, assumed knowledge by some of the internet ‘gurus’, confusing terminology leading to a lack of clarity.
I regard myself as still very new to blogging, and only wish I had discovered your site sooner. LOL.
