I Have Joined The Do Follow Movement
May 2nd, 2007 by CourtUpdate: Thanks to spammers that like to use my comments to link to various types of illegal sites I have had to discontinue using the ‘dofollow’ plugin.
Click here to find a huge list of blogs that ‘do follow’
Cass, Julie, Cade, and others have asked why I promote the D-List without ‘following’ it.
The answer is simple really, I have been afraid that turning off the “no follow” tag on my comments will lead to my linking to sites that I don’t want to. I really don’t want to link out to sites that are profane, pornographic, or otherwise against my moral standards.
I have ultimately decided that I can take the extra time to moderate comments from such sites. Links to such sites will be removed.
CourtneyTuttle.com will now be joining the Do Follow movement. I will also be incorporating a comment policy.

Welcome to the club
I think it’s a great movement within the blogosphere. The nofollow tags were a stop-gap measure when they were created. Now we’ve got far better tools to combat spam with.
Let’s keep up the good fight and let the search engines fix their own problems

Thanks for the article, I like the site.
LOL - just kidding bro!!!!
I honestly wasn’t aware of the fact that you didn’t have dofollow turned on… I’m glad you decided to make that move, because you have a lot of steady readers that will highly appreciate it! (Me included)
I also have dofollow on my new tea blog…so make sure you come spam my comments soon
Later!

Well… i think if we have too many comments for the post… that means we have too many out bound links… in a single page. how will it affect the our own seo..??

Is this the same as the IFollow blogroll? I’ve joined that one.
I don’t use the plugin they recommend for wordpress though. The one I use has a time limit on the nofollow tag. Two days after a comment is posted the nofollow is removed. So I have 2 days to catch spam that askimet misses. If I delete a comment in that window, the spammers don’t get a backlink even if google crawls my site while it’s up. Real comments will get the backlink the next time my site is crawled.
I think that’s the perfect balance between spam fighting and link love.

Good going, you can always remove the comments/sites you don’t find appropriate for your blog.

wait a second, the links are still coming up as nofollow! Have you installed the plugin or planning to do it soon?

In life, you always have to find a balance. Turning off the “no follow” will help friendly websites to increase their pagerank. That is a brilliant action. However, you cannot leave the door of your house open to anybody who is walking in the street, because in such a case, you will be possibly in problems sooner or later. My way of thinking is: Be as friendly as possible with everybody but keep an eye always open.

Mark me down as a Do Follower. I was reading an article about outbound links reducing your Pagerank but I have read many more that talk about its benefits. The bottom line is what do your readers want? Great content, great readability and great outbound links to sites that are relevant to the subject.
Thanks, Tom (TRCoach)

The first plugin I have installed after moving to wordpress is “DoFollow” from semilogic. This was one of the biggest reason I moved from blogger to wordpress - though some people are coming up with blogger scripts to remove nofollow tag - it’s pretty easy in wordpress and I am happy yo join the “DoFollow” wagon.
I want to pass on the link love, because soon, my blog gonna be PR4-5 in next update as it has gathered 5000+ backlinks in last 3 months.

I just think that using the “nofollow” tag only harms the blogs. Some people do not even bother anymore to comment on their favorite topics because they don’t gain anything.
It’s not that you should have something to win when you’re posting your comments, but knowing that your comment is not appreciated (not by the regular people, but by a search engine) it’s like saying “I don’t care about what’s your opinion”.
The ‘nofollow’ tag has to STOP! The new version of the blogs (WordPress, etc) should have an option where you can set if you wish to add the ‘nofollow’ tag, but it should be “OFF” by default!

“No Follow” must have came initially in existence because of the Spamming methods used by warez and other websites. Now whatever has been implemented, our task is to make as many blogs join the “DoFollow” wagon as possible.

i definitely see th disadvantages of removing the no follow tag. but for now i will leave it off.

This is absolutely fascinating - I too had no idea that no-follows were defaults - or that they existed - I assume that they were done to stop spammers - but at this stage of my blogging career I will just stick with moderating the spam!
Can you add me to the D-List - I think I got the plugin installed right!

I think the spam can be moderated manually. As the most important thing is that ppl. coming to your site and taking an interest. You encourage a lot of interest when you allow do follow
