Afternoon Update | Exercise Experiment – Day 1

May 21st, 2007 by Court

This morning I posted about an exercise/mental power experiment that I’m going to do all week. I’m going to force myself to exercise before I start working! I’m hoping that this will help me to think more clearly and have more energy.

What I Did
This morning I got up and went straight to the gym! I did 30 minutes of cardio on an elliptical trainer. I felt like doing more, but decided that doing too much might mess me up for tomorrow.

The Effects
To be honest, it didn’t really work out as well as I had hoped! I still don’t feel like I’m concentrating as well as I would like, but did feel a little more energy throughout the day. I think my body is telling me that I can’t fix two weeks of abuse with 1/2 day of being healthy. :)

My Outlook
I’m definitely not going to give up yet! I have been eating really healthy today and got my cardio in this morning. I’m going to head back to the gym a little later for some weight training. I’m thinking now that it’s going to take a few days for this experiment to help. I guess I knew that all along, which is one of the reasons I decided to do it for a week.

I’m hoping that tomorrow I’ll have happier news, I definitely want to resurrect the me that can think more clearly! I’ll update you tomorrow on how it works out.

If you want to save some time, but still get the benefits of a cardio and weight training workout, I’d try doing a ciruit workout.

Basically, just come up with a series of weight lifting exercises and do them successively without any breaks. One time through the exercises is one set. Rest between sets and start over again.

I’ve been doing this for awhile now and by the time I’m done lifting weights I’m breathing like I’ve been doing wind sprints.

You should try drinking green tea, it helps me concentrate on my work quite a bit.

This is a great idea. I really should start doing daily exercises or AT LEAST every other day. Sometimes I tell myself I’m going to get into it, and I do for about a week, but then I get lazy and quit.

From so many places I’ve learned that just an exercise in the morning gives you more energy for the entire day, like you said. I need to get into exercising again!

I think it would definitely make a difference! I really did feel a lot better when I was more consistent.

Congratulations! I usually work out in the mornings. I mainly do free weights at the gym and save the cardio for home.

Yes you can receive energy from exercise but what you eat is important also. If your fueling your body with the wrong things then you’re not going to have a lot of energy. In fact, it might make you even more exhausted.

Also maintaining a overall positive outlook helps. They’re all connected.

It might take a few days or it might take longer to get where you want to be.

Stay committed don’t forget to continually educate yourself on exercise & nutrition and the changes will happen.

I’ve always been a weightlifter that has a harder time sticking to cardio. Have you noticed a better energy boost from one over the other?
