How To Run Kontera Ads And Sponsored Posts
June 4th, 2007 by CourtSince posting my earnings, I have already had 11 people contact me about running Kontera ads and sponsored posts in the same site. Most of the questions were about PayPerPost, Smorty, and SponsoredReviews.
Yes, I know that you can’t use Kontera ads alongside sponsored posts. People keep emailing me to tell me that I can’t use both PayPerPost and Kontera at all, which is totally false. The truth is that you can’t allow Kontera ads to show up within the sponsored posts, but you can have them on your other posts.
How To Block Kontera Ads From Appearing In Sponsored Posts
There is a special piece of code that you can paste into your sponsored posts that will block your Kontera ads. You have to go into the code view of your ‘Write Post’ page, and paste one piece of code into the beginning of each paragraph of your sponsored post, and another piece of code at the end.
Let’s say that I wanted to block the ads from appearing in the above paragraph. I would click into the code view, and change it to look like this:
<span name=”KonaFilter”>There is a special piece of code that you can paste into your sponsored posts that will block your Kontera ads. You have to go into the code view of your ‘Write Post’ page, and paste one piece of code into the beginning of each paragraph of your sponsored post, and another piece of code at the end.</span>
Can you see what I did to the paragraph? I added this piece of code to the beginning: <span name=”KonaFilter”>, and then this piece to the end: </span>
When I write sponsored posts, I add these little filters to all of my paragraphs of the post, so that Kontera ads don’t show up at all. They will still, of course, show up in the posts that aren’t sponsored.
I forgot to add the KonaFilters once in a sponsored post, and the post was rejected by PayPerPost. PayPerPost is cool because they allow you to change it, and then they will accept it. I added in the KonaFilters and resubmitted it. It was accepted!

That’s a useful tidbit of information. I’ll remember that for the future, thanks.

Yep! If you’re ever going to write sponsored posts, you’ll definitely need to save the code.
June 4th, 2007 at 10:21 am
Thanks for sharing this very useful tip. Before this, I was force to take out the code, as it clashed with the TOC of sponsored posts.
Now i can try to implement both revenue source on my blog to achieve a win-win situation!

I’m glad that it helped! Apparently quite a few people have been trying to find the solution - hence all the emails and comments I received about the issue. Good luck!

I just found out about kontera the other day. Thanks for the clarification. I need to get my traffic and pageview up before I can sign up though..
June 4th, 2007 at 2:39 pm
I would just sign up now! I haven’t heard of them rejecting anyone, even if their pageviews are really low.

Hey Court, you’re a life saver! I had temporarily taken Kontera off of one of my blogs for the same problem you mentioned above until I figured it out. You must have ESP or something to add this post when you did. Thanks again for continually providing good and helpful content. Talk to you later!

I had to figure it out when PayPerPost got after me a while back.
I knew there had to be a way because other bloggers were doing it. I’m glad that I helped!

This is great info court. How do you do it with google ads on spoonsored posts or is that allowed?
June 4th, 2007 at 2:52 pm
thats allowed, your not allowed to have “in text” advertising with sponsored postings such as PPP
June 4th, 2007 at 3:33 pm
Yep, it’s allowed, but with PayPerPost it’s not allowed to have ads within the post, they have to be either above the post or in the sidebar.
That’s why you won’t see any Google ads in my posts that are marked sponsored.

I posted this fix awhile back as a result of some issues on the PPP forum. Although I was using this “fix”, it wasn’t working in FireFox for some reason, and my reviews were getting rejected.
Here’s a fix in case the “fix” doesn’t work (does that make sense?

That’s a very interesting method and I love it! I’m going to try it out!

Wow, thanks for the information! I’m not using Kontera… YET. But when I do, I’ll already know the trick
June 4th, 2007 at 8:40 pm
You got it.
I’m always happy to see you on the site Tay! BTW, I love the new domain name, how did you score such a premium name?

Good Post Court. I like it when a myth is debunked. Like the one that says you can not run pictures next to Adsense adds. Totally false. It’s the type of pictures that you have next to Adsense ads that concerns Google.

Thank you SO MUCH for this.
It worked on my latest PayPerPost post on my main blog.

It doesn’t work. And the worst thing is that I don’t see Kontera ads, but they see them (maybe because I’m not in the US).
Anyway my text has the tags, but I got rejected again.
Anyone has enough “voice” to be heard by Kontera about that?
July 11th, 2007 at 10:16 pm
Why don’t you give me the URL of the page you’re trying it on? I’ll check it to see where you went wrong. The method definitely works!
July 12th, 2007 at 1:21 am
I’ve been accepted just now. I’m waiting some weeks and I’ll activate Kontera again.
I should look on PPP rules to see how much time I have to wait until I can do what I want with the post..
July 11th, 2007 at 8:30 pm
That’s weird ’cause it worked perfectly for me.
Plus, I was able to use this same tip to remove the Kontera ads from not only one of my PPP posts that got approved, but another story about a murder that I didn’t want them to run on.

Did you know that Lucia has created a new plugin called KonteraControl? You can set which categories you don’t want Kontera to show up in (ie review, sponsored), and you can also set it up so that kontera doesn’t show up in comments or posts for a certain amount of days as well. I’ve been using it to keep Kontera out of my sponsored posts and to keep Kontera off my fresh posts so that I don’t tick off my regular readers with too many ads.
It’s a great wordpress plugin.

Thanks so much for this tip! I had just taken Kontera off one of my other sites and now I can put it back! You rock!

Thanks for presenting this. Would never have thought twice about it once approved at PayPerPost.

Do you know how to keep Kontera ads out of the sidebar and header? If so, can you write a post on that topic as well?
July 28th, 2008 at 7:40 pm
I am glad that someone wrote about this so that we can all learn how to do it.
