2 Simple Linking Rules To Increase Search Engine Traffic
June 11th, 2007 by CourtFollow these rules or be banished to the land of little search engine traffic.
- Make sure you have more inbound links than outbound links. Yes, you should still link out to sites that share related information. You just need to make sure that you get more inbounds than outbounds. If you need ideas for how to get links, visit this post from the archives: 102 Ways To Make Your Site A Back-Link Superstar. It will give you a few ideas.
- Force yourself to link internally. This means link to other pages and posts in your site. When you’re writing a post, think of relevant material you have written. Link to it. An easy method to achieve this would be the related posts plugin, but you also need to be linking within your posts - the related posts show up after. Search engines have learned very well how to tell if links are in the post or not. More links in your site establishes more authority on each of your pages.

Linking internally IS important. I have no idea why it repeatedly slips my mind. I see a lot of people with link 3-4 related posts under a new post. Is that too many? Is there a little plugin to help with this?

Yes, that’s the related posts plugin. I use it and there’s a link to it in this post.

I read it, saw it, and still asked you about it. I wonder about my ability to recall information even 10 seconds later these days.

I do that all the time! Don’t worry about it.

Is there a way for me to check how many inbound and outbound links I have on my site?
June 11th, 2007 at 11:17 am
There is a way to check you inbound links. Go to Yahoo.com and search for linkdomain:yoururl.com, substituting in your URL.
For outbound links I haven’t been able to find a reliable tool - you’ll have to estimate them based on the links in your sidebar, posts, and comments if you’re a dofollower.

The best tool for looking how many links you have going to your entire domain or pages is Yahoo site explorer. Increasing your position in the search engines is easy. Get lots of relevant inbound links, not just any old links tho, you want pages linking to you that have high page rank and have lots of links going into themselves. Pages that have PR1, 2 and even 3 have a very little impact on changing your sites ranking power.

Hi Court! Great tips.
Can I translate and comment some of your posts to Spanish? Some of them are very useful but lot of my readers don’t know English.
