One Post Isn’t Always Enough

July 20th, 2007 by Court
Welcome to Court's Internet Marketing School...we have mountains of information to share with you about creating a low maintenance income on the internet, and the best place to start is with my free ebook: "The Keyword Crash Course."

In 30 short pages my ebook shows you exactly how to set up a low-maintenance income online using free traffic from Google. You'll learn:
  • How to discover keyword sets where the traffic potential is high but the competition is limited.
  • How to set up quick, easy, search-engine friendly websites with no programming knowledge whatsoever.
  • How to build those websites around high-paying keywords that will give you your first passive online income.

The ebook is free, but there is a catch - you have to actually download it, read it, and implement what it teaches. I'm not giving you this book for intellectual stimulation; I'm giving it to you so you can make money. Hundreds of my readers have used these principles to either create or increase their online income. You can do the same.

Just fill out the easy form below you'll be redirected to the download page. As a bonus I'll follow up with an email mini-course that outlines some of my biggest successes, failures, and key insights I've gained over the years as a full-time internet marketer. I'll send you the first installment right away. And don't worry - all you'll ever get from me is value-packed content. I'll never share, rent, or sell your personal information. Enjoy...and thanks for visiting!

The title of this post is going to make some of you think that this is another one of those posts that tries to define how many posts per day bloggers should write. It isn’t.

With this post I want to suggest a different way of thinking that without question can help you to increase your traffic. I’ve been using this method now for a few months and the results prove that it works. I would dare say the I get more search engine traffic than most bloggers and there is a behind the scenes ’secret’ than I’ve been using to make that happen.

Not Every Post Is A “Post”

If you’re a regular visitor to CourtneyTuttle.com, you may think that you have read almost everything that I’ve written. Unless you have gone through the entire site from start to finish, I can almost guarantee that you haven’t. The ’secret’ that I’ve been ‘hiding’ is that not everything I create hits the front page. I write posts all the time that really aren’t posts at all - they are simply additional pages of useful information that I write with two purposes in mind:

  1. Baiting Google.
  2. Making your lives easier.

When I first started creating lessons that showed people how to install plugins, I cringed every time I told people to upload the plugin to their site using FTP. I knew that there would be a fairly significant percentage of readers that would have no idea what FTP was and an even greater percentage that would have no idea how to FTP. I don’t have to cringe anymore because now I have lessons in the archives that explain what FTP is and how to FTP using Filezilla, which is a pretty popular FTP program. Any beginner with a website or blog could go through those two lessons and learn how to FTP.

Most of you probably haven’t ever seen those posts, because neither one of them was ever published as a front page post. Were they necessary to make my plugin posts useful for everyone? Absolutely. Do they bring extra visitors to my site? All the time. I’m ranked #2 in Google for ‘how to ftp using filezilla’, and I see stats everyday from people finding me with that search.

If you want your blog or website to reach the top of your industry or niche, I think you’re going to have to start asking yourself if your site is a resource that anyone can use. Does a person have to be a ’seasoned veteran’ to know what you’re talking about or do you present enough information to take a person from the beginning to the end?

The Bar Is Set Very Low

What a lot of people don’t realize is that the bar on the internet is set very low. Most sites don’t help anyone to do anything. I think you’ll be amazed at how well you can do if you actually help people to learn something.

One Post Isn’t Always Enough.

Nifty little trick! Do you just set the timestamp back so it doesn’t show on the frontpage?

That’s exactly what I do Casey!

That is a good idea, when I want to write something not for the front page I usually just write it as pages, but I will try setting the time stamp back when I have something that isn’t important enough to be a page, but is still beneficial to visitors. Thanks for the tip!

Ya I would do it as a post! The natural link structure of your blog will give it more authority as a post, which will make it rank higher.

I am not familiar with the term “baiting google”. What exactly does that mean?

That means writing a page or post because you know that Google will rank it well and you will get traffic from it. :)

Court, that’s a great idea. I’ve had a few “posts” lately that this would have been more appropriate for–and it would have kept the real posts up front instead of pushing them further from the top. I’ll definitely put this in my bag of tricks for the future.

Court, I like the idea you have of posting without posting. There are a lot of times that I want to write about an item that seems very basic (as with your FTP issue) and you don’t want to re-hash your old information. Thanks!

I’m always thinking about whether I post too often or not enough. To be honest I think it depends on the person - if you have the time and ability to post several times a day, then do so. But if you find that you are short on time or short on quality content, then just post fewer times per day.
