Timing The Next Few PageRank Updates

August 1st, 2007 by Court

In order to make money on the internet, a few significant factors have to fall into place. No matter what type of site you have, there aren’t too many drawbacks to having a PageRank of 5, 6, or 7. ;)

Obtaining a high PageRank is going to make your site more valuable and it will make it a lot easier to monetize. Pay special attention to how I worded that last sentence. PageRank is the highest factor that determines the following:

  • How much your site could be sold for.
  • How much you can make with your site.

The proceeding statements are related to each other but in reality they are two separate beasts. High PageRank will help you in both areas.

Timing PageRank

The truth is that PageRank can be somewhat difficult to time because we don’t know exactly when the next update will be. However, it is quite likely that there will be a PageRank update sometime this month. Sadly, this means that there is very little time to get links that will help with the August update. The time for working for the August update is likely past.

Now Is The Perfect Time To…….

Just because the timing isn’t right to prepare for the August update (if there is an August update) doesn’t mean that the timing is bad for everything. On the contrary, right now is the perfect time to start a new site.

If you have been thinking about starting a new niche site or blog, the timing couldn’t be better. Sites that are started today could easily get to PageRank 5 before the update that will likely happen sometime in November or December. Getting that PR5 could make it a lot easier to monetize a new site. I think that sites started now could probably hit $1,000 a month by the end of the year simply because the timing is right.

The current market tells us that a site that reaches $1,000 per month can be sold for $10,000 - sites are going for what they can make in the following 10 months. Want a great way to buy a lot of Christmas presents? Start a new blog, prepare for the end of year pagerank update, monetize it, and sell it.

It looks like it already started. I made post about it on my blog.

A few days ago, I even made a contest(simple cut and paste) for those that would participate on their blog before the next PR update, I would double the prize if they win. I did not expect it so soon and taught I would had more time.

Court, why do a new site would have a PR5? Is because they are on a few PR5 sites. The question would be how many to get a good PR?

Some people are seeing changes here and there, but I think the majority of people (including me) still don’t see changes.

I don’t think that it’s happening yet, at least the usual channels I check aren’t showing anything.

I tried another tool and noticed a change on those sites but not on my own sites.

It could take a few days to update the official PR(all sites) and will check tomorrow if they say it change on those particular site.

But the timing is right for one.

It will definitely be interesting to see if it’s really going on or not. Right now it doesn’t seem like it to me but hopefully I’m wrong!

I don’t see any changes yet, but I’ll let everyone know when I do. I personally don’t think it’s going on yet but hope that it is. :)

I used one of the domain(PR0) that reported a change and tried it on 5 PR checker.
In that case, the PR3 is shown on every checker but not the same number of times(1 to 20). They don’t use the same number of data center but still many(37 to 72).

I checked with one of my new site and did not have a change, yet.

Maybe people will have a few more days to create a blog. ;)

That’s pretty interesting Steve. I’m still not seeing any changes 24 hours after the post so it seems to me like a false alarm.

Maybe Google is waiting until August 13 to make me right. :)

10x your monthly income from a blog still seems too cheap. Why sell if you can make that much and more in 11 months?

I agree with you 100% there. The buyers definitely have control of that market right now. I would rather keep it for myself or hire someone to run it.

Of course, a good salesman could probably get quite a bit more. :)

Do you see any issue with selling a site with your name on it? I’m wondering, if you’re going to start a site to sell in 5 months should it have a generic name?

Yeah I don’t think anyone in their right mind would buy this site. I would never sell it though. It would be better to use a generic name if you have any intent to sell.

Hey Court do you know if its possible to run two seperate sites on one hosting account. I have read that you can but have not been able to figure out how. Any ideas?

It’s possible and I have 6 domains on the same package. You should look in your hosting plan.

You will need to create a folder and upload the site to it. You also need to point the domain to that folder(Control Panel). At least, it like that with my host.

The only drawback is they share the same C-Class. Some say it’s not good for PR ranking when they link to each other. I do get search result from Google on my sites.

A few days ago Google Analytics was down for a day or so. Many of the “guru’s” stated this happens just prior to a PR update. However, I haven’t seen any changes to my site yet.

Also, I couldn’t agree with you more about the timing to start a new website or blog!

That’s an interesting theory they have about Google Analytics. I’m still not seeing any changes on any of the data centers.

It’s definitely the time to start a site!

definitely great to start a new blog now - I’m working on a travel one now :) I do like to obtain a PR5 or even 6 but it looks like a little SEO is needed to reach that stage. Would you have good suggestions for that - I wouldn’t mind a little investment to attain that goal.

A travel site could do amazingly well! Reaching a PR5 or PR6 will definitely take some work! You should visit this one from my archives:

If you’re in it for the long run, any time is a great time to start a blog. I guess you just need to know if you’ve got the time to write on more than one!

That’s true, time is a huge factor and it is a lot harder to write for two than it is for one.

When I made my test, the data centers were slow to respond this morning.

Later in the month will be better for me and my contest. It will give more time for people to enter in it. :D

At least some did want to take the chance and I got a few more entries ;)

Goole looks to have been doing some backlink updating. Shouldn’t be to long for PR update now. I think i’m going to start up a couple new projects as suggested it’s a good time for all the reasons you have said, plus I get 3 weeks holiday off my day job soon :)
