Make Money Online w/ An SEO’d Theme III

August 3rd, 2007 by Court

There are now 13 search engine optimized WordPress themes that I have personally optimized.

Benefits Of Using An Optimized Theme

Since doing some SEO tweaking on my WordPress theme, I have been able to move up from #758 in Google to #16 for the keyword ‘make money online’ and from not being ranked at all to #9 for ‘earn money online’. I’m also #4 for ‘make money online free’.

Needless to say, my traffic has increased a lot since going through my WordPress theme and fixing the issues that were holding my site back. If you missed the original post about the issues with most WordPress themes, here it is: Common SEO Problems In WordPress Themes.

How Is Your Search Engine Traffic?

If you’re frustrated with your search engine traffic, I would recommend using a theme that is search engine friendly. You will then at least know that your theme itself isn’t holding you back, and you can focus on other areas.

Two Options For Getting An SEO’d Theme

  1. Head over to my ‘SEO’d Themes‘ page, download one and install it. This is the best option for those of you that haven’t made many customizations to your current theme.
  2. Comment on this post and I’ll tweak your current theme for you. This will preserve your customizations. I will eventually be charging for this service, but for now it will be free of charge. I’ll email you so that you know how to get your current theme to me (make sure to leave your correct email address in the email field). I’ll then optimize it and get it back to you.

Hi Court
I think you’re way more deserving than BidV… #1 for ‘make money online’ by Christmas?

I use the popular Misty Look with the optimal-title plugin. Aside from the H2 problem, it looks good, no duplication in archives.

That’s one theme you could tweak, lots of users after John Chow has chosen it.

I’ve always thought about resorting to an SEO-optimised blog, for obvious reasons. Will have to give it a try soon.

Court, this is my first comment on your site, but I’ve been subscribed and lurking since you started in Feb. You’ve turned this blog into a valuable resource for novice web masters, and I really appreciate that. Please consider this a virtual “pat on the back” for a job well done.

Like the commenter above, I’m using the Misty Look theme, and I’ve customized it quite a bit by adding most of the plugins you’ve suggested. The thing I can’t seem to figure out is how to change the sidebar titles to H3 but keep the same font size, style, padding, etc. Can you help?

I can help with that, I actually have to do that exact thing with almost every theme I optimize. I’ll email you instructions and will get you taken care of!

Hi Court,

These themes are wonderful. I am using cutline and love it. However, I can’t seem to get the no www plugin to activate. Also there’s a little problem with the title of the previous post showing up at the top of the browser, instead of the correct title. I’m using the all in one SEO pack.

Thanks so much for doing these! I can’t believe you don’t charge yet.

Hey Court,

I commented at the All In One SEO plugin page and the developer of the plugin said that the title problem I am experiencing was fixed in his last update. The only problem is that I downloaded his latest and for me it’s still a problem. The odd thing is that I downloaded another plugin, the SEO Title Tag plugin and disabled the “rewrite title” on the All In One. Well, after installing the new plugin – the same problem is still there! I just can’t figure it out.

I know it’s nothing to do with your optimization of Cutline, you did a fabulous job with it. It just seems that this problem I’m having is negating your hard work on it. Do you have any ideas?

Thanks,

Gerri

Hi Court, my husband told me not to start a blog without you giving the theme a once over. I have selected a theme I would like to use for my new wedding blog. Would you mind taking a look at it?

Hey Court,

Just wanted to thank you again and let you know I’ve worked out my issues. I do not believe it ever had anything to do with your theme optimization.

My blog is only less than a couple of weeks old and I’m already getting Google love! Can you believe that? Your link is fully in tact on the bottom and will always remain there! I hope you get something out of it as well!

Here’s what my problem was, just in case someone else using Cutline has the same issue:

For some reason on my brand new blog, every post and page had the same title as my first post. I am using the all in one SEO pack plugin.

So here’s how I fixed it, or worked around it.

I got the SEO-Title-Tag plugin and installed it. It’s also a great plugin, btw. Court, maybe you can give the url, or already have. I don’t want to spam or promote any urls here without your approval.

I unchecked the re-write titles box in the all in one SEO pack and use the SEO-Title-Tag plugin to rewrite my titles.

Ta-da, everything works perfectly now, and as I said, already google juice WITHOUT ever submitting my url to Google.

That’s another credit to you Court, I read on your blog that you get in faster if you just link to your new url from a site that is already indexed and crawled frequently. So I linked to my new blog from my blog that is a few months old. As always, your advice was totally correct.

I know I sound like a shill.. lol.. sorry about that.. I just am so very impressed with the information you give and the VALUE of it all. I can’t believe you give this away for free, but I’m so grateful that you do.

Hello Courtney, I’m wondering if you could SEO the Zeke theme, it’s a good one. Here’s a link to download it: http://www.themes.solostream.com/download-manager.php?id=6

You can see a demo of the theme here:

I enjoy your blog, lots of useful info to improve blogs!

Hi Court, Thanks a lot for these SEO-themes. I have been looking for an optimized theme just like your version of Cutline, so I can’t wait to try it out on some new blogs, I have planned.

I don’t know if you’re offer of looking at themes is still good, but I’d like you to look at a theme I found. The author says it’s optimized for speed and seo. I’d like your opinion on it.

I love it, it’s organized and commented better than other themes I’ve seen.

This new blog will be geared towards teens (should get a good CTR). I’m lookinf for a basic SEO theme that isn’t too busy.

Hi Court,

I don’t have my WordPress blog up yet but I have spent the last month reading and reading about it, and trying to prepare for the very best start my skills can muster.

I was going to say hi when I got it up and running, but I just couldn’t wait to say thank-you.

You are by far the best resource I have come along so far and your non-condescending manner and disclosure of real help and tips are a breath of fresh air.

I like ProBlogger too and all those others, but I always get the distinct feeling they are holding back and doling out information like little nuggets that are enough to keep people appeased but never fully informed. (Like gods to mortals to insure their subservience.)
But that could be my limited experience talking.

Anyways, thanks, I hope one day I can offer you some value. Like when I tell everybody about you on my blog ;) .

Hi Court! I was hoping your free theme tweaking is still good, is it? Anyway, my blog listed here has a prosense (or bluesense?) theme, and I was hoping (read:pleading) that you can look on it and do some really great tweaks of yours..All the best, ernesto
