12 Ways To Get People Hooked On Your Site
August 7th, 2007 by CourtIn 30 short pages my ebook shows you exactly how to set up a low-maintenance income online using free traffic from Google. You'll learn:
- How to discover keyword sets where the traffic potential is high but the competition is limited.
- How to set up quick, easy, search-engine friendly websites with no programming knowledge whatsoever.
- How to build those websites around high-paying keywords that will give you your first passive online income.
The ebook is free, but there is a catch - you have to actually download it, read it, and implement what it teaches. I'm not giving you this book for intellectual stimulation; I'm giving it to you so you can make money. Hundreds of my readers have used these principles to either create or increase their online income. You can do the same.
Just fill out the easy form below you'll be redirected to the download page. As a bonus I'll follow up with an email mini-course that outlines some of my biggest successes, failures, and key insights I've gained over the years as a full-time internet marketer. I'll send you the first installment right away. And don't worry - all you'll ever get from me is value-packed content. I'll never share, rent, or sell your personal information. Enjoy...and thanks for visiting!
1. Write pillar articles. One impressive post can make all the difference in the world. It could mean the difference between a reader forgetting about you entirely and your becoming his/her favorite site. Pillar articles take a lot longer than regular articles. The easiest way to create a pillar article is to do a list-post:
- 99 Ways To…..
- 10 Simple Methods For….
- 7 Fail-Safe Techniques To….
2. Publish often. If you don’t have time to publish often, you’re going to struggle in this area. People’s appetites for new information is incredible. The more often you can fill the appetite, the more often people will visit your site.
3. Create a ‘best of’ section. Your best work should be displayed prominently on your site. I added mine to my sidebar, because it helps to increase the PageRank of each of those posts. I’ve seen people add a page that contains their best work. I don’t think it’s a bad idea because people can find their best work, but the posts won’t get as much PageRank that way.
The reason that it helps increase the PageRank of those posts to have them in the sidebar is that they are linked to from all of your pages that way.
4. Take your site’s organization up a notch. This is especially critical if your site is a blog. Creating my organization boxes didn’t take much time and made a huge difference in the amount of people that stick around.
If I were you, I would take a look at your home page, and determine how difficult it’s going to be for your visitors to find what they’re looking for.
5. If your site is a blog, stop thinking of it as one. There are many advantages to having a blog. There are also some disadvantages with traditional blogs. Posting regularly isn’t going to be enough to get people hooked. Websites that aren’t blogs try to cover every angle of their niche. If you have a blog, you should try to do the same.
People that want to learn to make money online need to know about a lot of different topics: SEO, Adsense, sponsored posting, social media, etc. Posting once a day about random stuff won’t help anyone to learn all of that, I have to make sure that I cover all of it. Make sure you cover all the topics in your niche.
6. Install the Brian’s Threaded Comments plugin (Sorry, WordPress blogs only!). This allows you to answer your readers questions directly. Why would they continue to read your site if you don’t answer their questions? Would anyone disagree that answering your readers’ question makes your blog a more valuable resource?
7. Create a good ‘about’ page. What skills do you have that are an asset for the people who find your blog? Before people trust what you say, they will often check out your About page.
8. Show your site’s rankings. This technique can be very useful if your site has good rankings. I use a widget that I made at ShowOffRankings.com to show mine. People can and should trust you better if you have good Alexa, Technorati, and Google (PageRank) rankings .
9. Don’t show your site’s rankings.
If you’re starting out, and your rankings aren’t super impressive, I probably wouldn’t use a widget that shows your rankings. I would probably still use the Alexa widget, but that’s the only one I would use. I would add it at the bottom of your sidebar where it isn’t prominent.
10. Improve your site’s rankings. When I get into the top 10,000 in Alexa, I’m sure that people will trust me and get hooked on my site a lot more than they do now. When I have a Google PageRank of 6, I’m sure the same concept will apply.
I don’t really know more now than I did when I started, but people trust me more now because my rankings continue to improve. No matter what your site is about, people will trust you more as you have a higher PageRank, Alexa ranking, etc.
11. Help your readers. Care. If you don’t care about them, you probably won’t ever have a high traffic site. No matter what niche you’re in, you can’t be a lot more successful if you’re really helping people.
12. Maintain your enthusiasm. Enthusiasm is very infectious and your passion for your topic will come through in your writing. If you’re not excited about your topic, learn to be because you’ll never make it otherwise.

I do all of that. Except the organization part. I mean, I think my site’s organized. But I definitely will be needing to “brand” my blog and show off my best work.
August 7th, 2007 at 3:03 pm
That’s great Casey! That means that you’ll maintain a lot more than people that aren’t doing it, so well done!
August 7th, 2007 at 3:24 pm
I’ve done a lot of that, just condensed it a bit. The part I really care about is caring about your readers; that’s what’s most important to me.
Enthusiasm is big, too. I’ve set small, attainable goals for myself, a few more goals that will be difficult but possible, and still a few more that will be nearly impossible. As I check things off my list, it’s hard to not become ‘enthused’ and want to work that much harder.

Caring about your readers is definitely very important. People can tell if you care about them - they can also tell if you’re out to just make a buck off of them.
I noticed that your Alexa has been getting a lot better lately, well done!

This is definitely a pillar entry for you. I saved it to my del.icio.us for repeated viewing. Thanks Court!
August 7th, 2007 at 5:19 pm
Thanks tallfreak! That will definitely help.
Actually a quick glance at my stats tells me that it already has!

Thank you for noticing…. any idea why the widget has me in the 800k’s, but the Firefox thing is in the 700k’s (I obviously had rather believe Firefox)?
I’m moving down about 50k spots a week, but I expect that to level off as I get closer to 100k. That’s an elite group and I don’t imagine you give up your spots without a fight
Thing I like is I’m doing it with consistent, but growing, traffic. I’ve been without any huge spikes from social traffic, and I’m still dropping. I’m so eagerly awaiting the PR update.

It’s pretty common for the widget to say one thing and the site/toolbar to say another, even though that doesn’t make sense really.
I’m’ sure they could improve the programming and fix it but I doubt it will ever happen. Sometimes it shows one number in the Firefox toolbar and a different one in Internet Explorer toolbar. Kind of funny.

Good tips!
Not thinking of your blog as a blog is an interesting one. It reminds me that blogs still have a stigma with some people– they still think of blogs as being little more than useless online diaries where people spill out their angst to the world.
August 7th, 2007 at 9:05 pm
There is a stigma with blogs, you’re right about that. If bloggers can treat their site as something of value, people will treat their site that way as well.

A good article Court. I think the main enemy to everyone is time! I’m finding it increasingly difficult to keep posting up with the pressures of my daily job. Keep up the good work.
August 8th, 2007 at 6:06 am
Thanks Martin! I can certainly understand that statement, I wish that I had three of me to do all the things I would love to get done.

Nice post.
I was reading your post about the Alexa widget. I was thinking about using the Traffic Rank button instead of the Site Stats (at least while my rank is low).
Are they the same or does it have to be the Site Stats button to get all the benefits?
August 9th, 2007 at 9:28 pm
You would get the same benefits!

On the organization boxes, did you hard code the HTML and CSS into your template or is there any PHP behind it? Have you considered making it a plug-in? Is the click rate on them good?
Thanks…
August 9th, 2007 at 9:30 pm
Hi Frank! I did hard code them into my template. In my theme they were placed in the header.php file.
I haven’t thought about that as a a plugin but that’s a good idea!
The click rate on them is very good, especially from people that find my site in search engines.

Fantastic advice, really mean that. I like the bit about the three sections at the top. Serves as a focus for the
blog, sorry website.Jamie
August 9th, 2007 at 9:32 pm
Thanks Jamie! Those three sections were a major breakthrough for my site. It made a lot more people stick around that find me in search engines.

I really like the idea of increasing the site’s organization. The look you’ve got is really clean and easy to navigate. I guess that’s what you are going for!
This is the type of article I enjoy reading the most because it actually helps me! There are a lot of other popular blogs that have given me junk lately. Yours is not one of them.
Thanks.
