The Obvious Secret To Never Running Out Of Post Ideas

October 4th, 2007 by Court

Yellow NotepadThis idea is so painfully obvious, some people will probably take offense to it. People don’t always want to learn about things that they know they should be doing. Instead of getting frustrated at a simple idea, why not embrace it and actually make a positive change? I’m betting that less than 10% of those that are trying to make money online are using this method.

As I sit down to write this week’s posts, I have 11 post ideas that I came up with earlier this week. Each one of them is written on my trusty yellow notepad that cost less than a dollar at Target. Now all I have to do is choose the best five and type them up. Having the notepad with me reminds me to look for ideas as I do my daily tasks.

I keep ol’ yeller near my at all times during the day. I regularly get ideas when I’m reading books and magazines, and when I’m watching television or talking to friends. When I have a good idea, who takes care of me? My trusty yellow notepad.

If you have something to write on as you go through your day, I think you’ll be amazed at what you’re able to come up with (and remember).

I do this as well Court! I think its really important in order to stay organized and also so you don’t forget your ideas. I know when I don’t write down ideas I will most likely forget about them.

I hate when I forget ideas. It’s such a waste. I’ve learned to write them down - it’s the only way to go.

I write down my ideas for posts too. I have a little daily notebook thing! I highlight them once I have made the post.

It works for me, Court! I have a cute pink notebook that I take with me everywhere and I have a page for each of my sites. Whenever I have a new idea, I write it down. That way I always have a list of things I can work on, and I also prevent myself from forgetting good ideas when they come to me. :) Since you’re a boy, you might not want pink, so the little yellow scratch pad is perfect ;) LOL…

I think I can do a much better job of this. You definitely are better than me at doing this (I’ve seen her notebook in real life hahaha).

Yeah I’ll stick with the yellow lol.

Since I read alot of periodicals, I also keep a clip file of articles I want to take info from or comment on. And I have a notebook in my purse, in my car and on my desk. I use my Palm Pilot too when I’m in a pinch.

My yellow post-it note pad isn’t cutting it anymore. I’ll have to upgrade to the notepad

I starting placing a few of my idea notepads in various locations(work, home office, beside my bed)because I would forget many of my ideas. The frustrating thing would be a few months later while browsing the internet, or watching TV I would see someone else with that same idea(or something similar to it..

Definitely a good thing to do before you lose a thought. Most of the time when I am blogging I get ideas of more things to write about. I then create the title as a draft and come back to write it out in full later. helps keep it where it should be and helps me to not lose any post-it notes.

That is so funny, and so true….many think that to be successful it has to be hard, there just can’t be something so simple as writing down your ideas when they pop into your head. :)

I am continually writing down ideas….when I’m not on the computer! I get them when I’m washing dishes, driving (one time I didn’t have paper so I wrote on my Kleenex box…LOL!), doing yard work….just not very often when I’m at the computer.

Thanks Court, loved the post!

I actually wrote a post about this topic last week, and I use a similar tactic: a pocket notebook that I carry around with me.

To avoid running out of ideas, I do something similar but instead of working with a sheet of paper, I just add a draft to my blog but I don’t publish it. I might add some notes and some to links to it so that I remember what it was about.

Before I write a new post, I go through all my drafts to see if one inspire me and most often than not, it does.

I’ve been known to write down my blog ideas on my grocery list (there’s one in my purse right now!). You just never know where or when, so I try to keep paper with me at all times.

Also, I utilize a spiral notebook that’s 3 hole punched so that I can tear out the good stuff and place it in a notebook that I have tabbed with sticky notes. Nothing fancy, but it’s fast.
