Google Unveils Video Adsense Units
October 9th, 2007 by CourtI just logged into my Adsense account to discover that there is a new type of ad unit available in there. If you log into your Adsense account, and then go to ‘Adsense Setup’, you will see a new section:
Following the link will take you to YouTube.com, where you will need to either sign in, or sign up for a free account. I signed up for a free account, and then after a confirmation email I was prompted to customize a video player. I picked the colors and the size I wanted, and saved my new Adsense video player.
I placed a video ad player all the way down at the bottom of the site, so go ahead and scroll down to check it out.

Any ideas on how to get it to embed in a WordPress post. WP seems to ‘help’ by stripping the div out and just leaving text.

Hey Court,
This will make a lot of blogs better monetize with Video Units advertising. Thanks for the tip.
Cheers,
Carlo

Thats huge! I did click some ads to test it out and I bet it WILL work way better than Adsense.
I might just use it since it open in a new window but I hope it come much smaller.

Don’t worry, they have some smaller ones.
They actually have three different sizes to choose from and also some other colors.

That is too cool! I was in Adsense today but didn’t even notice that. I am going to have to look more at it tomorrow and see where I can implement it in my site.

Its certainly not hard to see with this size. This should attract more seniors to the site too!

Thanks for sharing this it’s good to see what one of these units looks like in action. I remember a while back Google seemed to have TOS against placing videos near ads but now it won’t be a big deal.

Woa that’s big! Do you get paid when someone clicks on the video to play it, or what does the user need to click on to make you money?
Also, if I already have 3 sets of text ads on a page, can I add the videos, or do I need to remove one of the text ads?

does anybody have any idea of how to embed the player into the main page index? i would like to have it after my second post always, like i currently have a google rectangle. thanks in advance.

I added a true/false variable and put the code for the video inside an if statement.
The if looks like this, kinda.
Before the loop I set tubeswitch to true…
inside the loop after the post…
If tubeswitch = true
Video code
set tubeswitch to false
end if
Of course that’s not the code, but it gives you an idea how you can do it. If you want it after a certain numbered post use a counter instead of a true/false.

It’s not available to all publishers at the moment. I think it’s only been made available to people in Europe & North America…

OK, I have tried to use the video player. I’ve had good luck placing a single video from YouTube on my site, but when I try to embed the player, it wants to select the videos for me. It seems I have to select a channel, but I don’t want to do that. I tried to make my own channel, so that I could select the videos for the channel and then use my own channel, but couldn’t figure it out. Then I went and ate some ice cream instead. I threw in the towel! Am I trying to do something that’s not possible? Duh.
