Now For The Real Toolbar PageRank Update
October 26th, 2007 by CourtIt looks like the real toolbar PageRank update is now underway folks. For all of you wrote that PageRank doesn’t matter in the last few days, you’re not allowed to check your new PageRank now.
You can find what your new PR is by visiting this PageRank checker. Update: Here’s another checker and another checker (this one’s working the best) because these tools are getting overloaded. The tool will pull up a ton of different data centers. Your old PR will show in some of them, and your new PR will show in some of them. It looks like I’m back to a PR3, but it’s kind of hard to tell right now since I’ve been a 3, 2, and 1 in the last two weeks. I’m now showing all three results in the different data centers. I haven’t seen PR3 for me in a few weeks so I think that’s the new one. That probably means I should have a PR5 since I’m slapped -2 right now.
What Did You Guys Get? I’m Curious!

I still am not seeing any change in my domains. An interesting thing happened with my PR back in August though. I was a PR2 up until about August when PR should have updated. Then I dropped to a 0. I haven’t done anything really with the site so I don’t know why it would have dropped. If anything I had built up some decent links, never participated in buying/selling links and not part of a network.
October 26th, 2007 at 2:17 pm
Bryan you got a PR3 dog, nice work! That thing in August was bull, it wasn’t accurate at all.
October 26th, 2007 at 1:38 pm
LOL I am polling a PR4
October 26th, 2007 at 1:47 pm
Lol what a joke. That sounds like the PR3 I got last time. Without question it’s because your site is so new.
When I got my original PR3, it was about three months after I started my site. Even then it was ranking much higher than PR3. Funny that even when Google exports PR they don’t seem to count new links. Next time it updates I guarantee you will get a 7.
Good news though, you’ve been cleared by the Akismet people.
October 26th, 2007 at 5:09 pm
Also hopefully by next update I will be out of sandbox and with out the bitch slap it should jump.
LOL yeah also out of Askimet limbo.
October 26th, 2007 at 2:00 pm
Nice Vic PR4 isn’t to bad. I know you wished it was higher though, as we all do.
October 26th, 2007 at 2:08 pm
Well after 7 months I am still a Zero. I guess I need to put out a little more useful content. I have been basically documenting my SEO learning journey for one of my websites. I may need to start moving beyond that. Time will tell I suppose. Thanks for the great info on your blog.
October 26th, 2007 at 2:14 pm
I’m showing that you got a PR2 Novice, so good job! You’re doing better than you thought.
October 26th, 2007 at 2:27 pm
Court, it does seem like a more general update, but I am not sure whether it includes slap 1 or slap 2
It seems it might just include slap 1
October 26th, 2007 at 2:37 pm
Yeah, I’m not sure either! I’m showing my site as a PR1 in a lot of data centers. That’s obviously the old PR with the -2 slap.
Then I’m showing PR2 in some data centers - that could mean that I have PR4 with a slap -2, or a PR3 with a slap -1.
I’m also showing PR3 in some data centers, which could mean that I have PR5 -2 or PR4 -1. Or, it could mean that I just have PR3 and the slaps are gone (Not likely). We’ll have to see how it plays out, too hard to tell at this point.
October 26th, 2007 at 3:29 pm
Hey Court, this is my first PR update ever! I’m still new to SEO, but guess what?! My blogspot got a 2 I think! Wow I’m like giddy. Lol! Other sites I work on have gone up too! Yay. Thanks for the good tips and tools Court.
October 26th, 2007 at 3:54 pm
Marci that’s awesome! That will open up some doors and without question gain some more respect for you.
October 26th, 2007 at 3:29 pm
I will get PR5 for my main blog. My work is starting to show. It’s good for the ego.
My other blogs also got higher PR in the datacenters.
My new blog/file directory 1 Cool File will get a PR6
It’s a PR0 now.
It’s my first PR update. Could the numbers change again before the final export?
Steve
October 26th, 2007 at 3:56 pm
That is the coolest thing I’ve heard all day Steve! It’s likely that these numbers will stick.
October 26th, 2007 at 4:10 pm
You were the first blog that gave news of it in my few RSS feeds.
Thanks for that. That made day
I hope they stick too
October 26th, 2007 at 3:34 pm
No idea why, some are returning a 0 (I started in June) and some are returning a 4. Partial update?
October 26th, 2007 at 3:57 pm
J.D. that means that you will likely have a 4 when it goes down. Nice!
October 26th, 2007 at 5:16 pm
Looks like I’ll end up with a PR3…like I said in my post, I’m a little let down, as I expected a solid 4 at least, but on the other hand, I’m damned happy that it’s finally happening
On another note, my project site, http://bloggingsmostwanted.com raked in a 4 - LOL! That’s pretty cool I guess!
More DC’s are being updated even in the last couple of hours, so maybe we’ll see some final results very soon.
October 26th, 2007 at 5:24 pm
It’s good to see you here bro! That’s awesome that you got a 4 on bloggingsmostwanted.com, I think I’m going to come up with a way to tell people about that project.
Hey have you considered that you might have been slapped? You might be at PR5-2…..
October 26th, 2007 at 5:41 pm
Very interesting Court, I never thought about that, I guess due to the fact that I wasn’t ranked yet - so I didn’t have anything to go by.
But, it’s definitely a real possibility!
Thanks for the confidence booster, I needed it!!!

The question is:
Do you want PR to matter or not?
Do you want Google to tell you what you put on your site? Did you feel like you were being dishonest with the links you had before and were tricking your readers or was it an ad just as valid as any AdSense ad?
PR really does not matter. If it did, google dot com with a PR of 10 might turn up on the first page of a google search for “search engine”
October 26th, 2007 at 6:48 pm
No James, I don’t want PR to matter. My opinion doesn’t change the fact of whether it matters of not though. Does it matter to advertisers? Yes. Should it? Probably not.
October 26th, 2007 at 6:33 pm
Oh boy thanks for the head’s up. It looks like I’m going from no pagerank to a 4. I’ll believe it when I see it in my toolbar! Now that I (supposedly) have a pagerank, I’ll start worrying all the time about keeping it.
October 26th, 2007 at 6:49 pm
Nice Jeni! Glad to give you the heads up.
October 26th, 2007 at 6:42 pm

OpTempo is still too new to get a PR this time around but my software development blog, VBNotebookFor.NET, that’s been on its own domain since July got a PR-4.
October 27th, 2007 at 11:07 am
That’s awesome Frank! I wouldn’t worry about OpTempo because you’re right, it is too new to get PageRank this time. Next time you’ll rock it.
October 26th, 2007 at 8:35 pm
Thanks for the site. It seems I am now a PR4. Time to set my sight on PR5 now.
October 27th, 2007 at 11:08 am
Nice David! Onthewebed.com it moving up in the world! Good luck with everything.
October 26th, 2007 at 8:40 pm
No clue what’s going on, but it does seem, according to that last tool that the PR for my blog is being boosted from 1 to 4.
It doesn’t seem to make any sense however, because the blog has hardly got any inbound links at all.
Well that’s not true, but very few new ones since the last update at least.
Oh well
October 27th, 2007 at 11:09 am
It’s quite possible that all your links weren’t counted during the last update. PR has a very interesting attribute that not a lot of people talk about - Google likes to see links age a little bit before they add to toolbar PageRank.
Sites that were started after July this time probably didn’t get as much PageRank as they deserve.
October 26th, 2007 at 8:51 pm
somethings is happening as i was a PR of 0, now i am getting 0,2 and 3.
Was predicted a 4 so have wait and see.
October 27th, 2007 at 11:11 am
It sounds like you’re probably going to end up with a 2 or a 3 then. Even today, the results are very unstable so we’ll have to wait a little longer for it to even out!
October 26th, 2007 at 8:52 pm
One says 1s and 2’s the other says all 2s. I hope I got my 2 back. Heck I was hoping for a 3 or 4. That’s what the predictors said and I tripled my traffic and backlinks the past two months. Then I got slapped. I’ll be happy with my 2 back!
October 27th, 2007 at 10:16 am
Ok one more thing now… I like to think out loud btw… I’ve never really been clear on if the PR matters at all in terms of search engine rankings… like as in before this update did google consider me a 0, and now consider me a 3? or did they consider me a 3 before the update and now they are just displaying it?
October 27th, 2007 at 11:14 am
They considered you to be a PR3 before DeMerchant. A PageRank update simply gives a snapshot of what current PageRank is. PageRank changes in real time, there just isn’t a way to prove what your rank is until Google exports it with an update.
October 26th, 2007 at 9:03 pm
Yeah I look like I’ll be pulling a PR3, which is kind of a let down… was expecting at least a 4… oh well… better than a 0… just have to keep working for the next update
October 27th, 2007 at 9:57 am
Will google attempt to only boost your PR so far in one update. For example if you normally would be boosted to PR4 or 5, may they only boost you to a 3, and then boost you the rest of the way in the next update? I know people are jumping from 0 to 4, but haven’t seen any bigger jumps than that… maybe google is restricting size gains… this is just my conspiracy theory caused mostly from being overtired
October 27th, 2007 at 10:05 am
1 Cool File went from 0 to 6. So it’s possible.
October 27th, 2007 at 10:14 am
Thanks McGrath… FOR NOTHING! lol jk… way to burst my bubble of hope ha ha…
October 27th, 2007 at 10:34 am
Oops! I forgot the http in the url.
1 Cool File
You can have hope again
My own blog went from 0 to 5. It was a 301 redirect that took a long time to come because it was a PR3 on the old url. The change of url was done in mid August. I don\’t know if that counts.

You were ranking like a three before. PageRank updates in real time - it’s the export that only happens every once in a while.

I would have been happy with a PR1, so a 3 really makes my day
October 27th, 2007 at 11:19 am
Thanks Desty! It’s still hard to tell if the 3 or 4 is going to stick, but either way it’s much better than the 1 I had on Thursday. I’m glad you got a 3!
October 27th, 2007 at 12:00 am
No changes across the board yet for me. No dips either so that’s still good. We’ll see in a couple of hours.
October 27th, 2007 at 11:21 am
I’m showing all 3s for you, so it’s very likely what you’ll end up with!
October 27th, 2007 at 12:36 am
I was hoping for higher but I got a PR3 on Blograters. Seeing how negligent I have been the past few months with it though I guess thats not too bad.
I still say we should have a blogging convention in Palo Alto and visit some people
October 27th, 2007 at 11:23 am
A PR3 will open up a lot of doors for you with that site though. Especially considering what you want to do with it. Should be a lot easier to get review opps. I’m down for going to Palo Alto lol.
October 27th, 2007 at 1:40 am
I just contacted you, because for some weird reason I just got the RSS feed…looks like hours after the post went up (judging by the number of comments before mine).
Anyway, my blog is PR3 it seems…I’m kind of excited, but it’s only Google, not God (hmm…sounds like a good blog title. Feel free to use it)
My old website went from a PR4 to PR2, though. Weird. Don’t know how it got to a PR4 in the first place, though. But I rarely update it, so I’m not surprised or concerned.
October 27th, 2007 at 11:25 am
I just sent you an email Theda K! I’m glad you moved in a positive direction!
October 27th, 2007 at 1:55 am
I’m either a PR3, PR2 and PR4.
October 27th, 2007 at 11:26 am
It’s very unusual that the data sets are all messed up like that, I guess we’ll just have to wait to see how it turns out!
October 27th, 2007 at 3:07 am
hei court congrat your site being at PR3 again. My site also get update court. Really nice.
October 27th, 2007 at 11:27 am
Thanks dott-com! I’m glad you got updated. What did you get?
October 27th, 2007 at 11:35 pm
I got 4 court. Maybe becoz some of the tips you give here make my site “jumping”.
October 27th, 2007 at 3:33 am
Gah … I’m still a PR4! I shouldn’t complain, though. With so many people dropping in rank it’s nice to know that some sites can remain constant.
You’ll get your PR back, Court. By spring this site will be PR6! … maybe
October 27th, 2007 at 11:28 am
A 4 is great Jason! I wouldn’t worry at all about that.
October 27th, 2007 at 4:57 am
Mine is swinging between my existing rank of ‘unranked’ and a PR4. I still thinks it’s all meaningless.
I can see why Google are upset about people selling links, but many of those sites are still authority sites so by penalising them it still makes the numbers skewed. If I stay at a PR4 I’ll be higher than some authorotative blogs that have been around for years - and that is just silly.
I personally think they should penalise those buying the links, not selling them.
October 27th, 2007 at 11:31 am
You’re right about that Caroline, the penalty wasn’t applied evenly. It was applied to sites that have influence.
Google can’t really penalize that sites that are buying links because then you could buy links for your competitor’s sites. Selling links on the other hand is easier to prove.
Penalizing the sites that sell links makes it easier for them to maintain the quality of their index, and that’s the only thing they really care about.
October 27th, 2007 at 6:20 am
Thanks for the collection of tools.

You’re welcome John! 3s are great, so well done!
October 27th, 2007 at 6:56 am
I did not even know I was ranked until one of my fellow bloggers posted on my page , but it looks like 3 , I have been at it Since August , he says I should be happy but I feel the same as I di yesterday , its all good. Back to blogging now
October 27th, 2007 at 11:37 am
Nice! A 3 is amazing for a site that started in August. That is a major accomplishment so take pride in that.
October 27th, 2007 at 9:07 am
There are more than a few of those “predicted Page Rank” websites that give you inflated numbers. It’s sad that so many bloggers go to them and it predicts a 4 or a 5 for them and they get excited not knowing that those tools are NOT ACCURATE.
It’s like that little widget thingy that some have on their website that says something like “My Site Is Worth $64,000″. Well your site is not worth $64,000 and maybe only $64.00. Same with the pagerank ones. Sorry everyone, but not every site should be a PR of 4 or above.
October 27th, 2007 at 9:14 am
From 0 to 3. No reason for joy, but not too bad.
My other blog (no new post since June) went from 2 to 3.
October 27th, 2007 at 9:26 am
I went from PR0 to PR4 - pretty happy about that.
But PR doesn’t matter any more, right?
October 27th, 2007 at 9:36 am
I just went from unranked to PageRank 3. My other blog, MMO Explorer - http://mmoexplorer.com, just went from 0 to PageRank 4.
October 27th, 2007 at 10:06 am
PR3 for me Court!
October 27th, 2007 at 10:13 am
I started two of my blogs few months back and
My one blog got PR 4
and another got PR 3
For the time being I am happy.
October 27th, 2007 at 10:33 am
Hmmm..
I’m a PR5 now
That’s cool!
October 27th, 2007 at 12:12 pm
I don’t get it (not that I am complaining). When I go to my site on my browser, my toolbar Page Rank say no page rank information available.
When I go to the PageRank Checker, I see I am a PR2 (1.6 Average). How does that work?
October 27th, 2007 at 8:59 pm
I just checked all my sites and it looks like my main blog is going from 0-3! Very happy about that. But what surprised me is that my other sites got PageRank, too, including my personal blog, which is really just for fun, it got a 2!
October 27th, 2007 at 9:58 pm
When I first looked I had a PR of 2. Then I dropped to zero after the bit about advertising on your site.
Now all of a sudden my opening page is a PR5 (it’s just the lead-in page to the blog itself) and the blog has a PR of 4. I find it odd the page without much of anything on it has the higher PR.
October 27th, 2007 at 11:48 pm
I accidentally stumbled on my blog that it increased from PR2 to PR3…I was shocked.
Thanks Google!
Cheers,
Carlo

Andy i got best pagerank checker from your post. I really like digpagerank its best of all i have seen.
October 28th, 2007 at 2:14 am
Hey Court, to be honest with you I’m really glad the PageRank update has finally come. Now maybe I can make a little extra cash with PayPerPost, direct advertising, etc. even if PR isn’t the most reliable way to determine the value of a site.
By the way - Super Blogging got a three, like you predicted in the free review you gave me a while back.
I was hoping to do better but I can’t expect too much of myself. I’ll work harder and go for a 5 and next time!
October 28th, 2007 at 2:56 am
I wake up this morning and I have a PR of 3…which is my first rank..it was N/A up until now, started in July…sweet…it all seems to be a bit of a lottery though, your blog is much larger then mine, yet we both have PR of 3, doesn’t seem fair!
October 28th, 2007 at 8:10 am
Wow! I just checked mine and have a PR 3. I’ve never had a PR before
My other site has a PR 2.
October 28th, 2007 at 10:36 am
Went from 1 to 3…. I’m a bit disappointed.
October 28th, 2007 at 10:36 am
It is all kind of odd. I’ve only had my blog since early September and I’ve already got PR5. Yes, I’ve put a lot of material on it in that short time but it makes me wonder HOW they come up with the rankings?
October 28th, 2007 at 10:50 am
To be completely honest, I haven’t figured all this page rank stuff out. Mine turned out a PR3, but I’m not even sure I understand what that means. I’m thinking it’s basically saying it’s just average, since previous comments are saying 4 or 5 is best. I guess I should feel happy that I have a rank at all, not a zip zero nada.
October 29th, 2007 at 8:48 am
for my blog,i rose from pagerank 0-pagerank 5.Quite shocking consider that I predicted a 4.
October 29th, 2007 at 11:24 am
I’m happy with this update since my site stepped from pagerank 3 to pagerank 4!
A strange update anyway… we’ve waited for 6 months and now a lot of sites have lost 1-2 or eve 3 pr points!
October 29th, 2007 at 12:06 pm
From PR0 to PR4.
October 29th, 2007 at 3:59 pm
