Guys You Are Much Better Than You Think At This

December 18th, 2007 by Court

Yesterday I wrote a post that was meant to give people a method that they can use to get better at writing. If you missed the post you can find it here: The Three Personalities Of Exceptional Copywriters. After publishing the post, I got a few emails from people who were really worried about their writing skill.

Guys, if you get discouraged by reading anything I’ve written I am truly sorry. Anything I post is only meant to help and if you read the post, you’ll see that I said that you need to be effective - this doesn’t mean that you need to be spectacular at writing right now. What I didn’t convey is that most of you are already good enough at writing to make plenty of money online.

When I built my first site I didn’t have a clue what to put up so I just wrote about Motorola phones. I wrote up stupid reviews about like 10 different phones. I think the entire site was like 20 pages. That site’s highest month brought in more than $3,500 in revenue even though I didn’t have the writing or technical ability that I have now.

I still have local copies of those pages and I can tell you that they have spelling and grammatical errors all over the place.  I can tell you that almost all of your sites are waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay better than that one ever was.

You’re welcome, it’s just the truth though! I think people should try to learn as much as they can but can still do well in the meantime.

Hey congrats Court on being on the first page for internet marketing. That is a great achievement with all of the competition that is out there. Not to mention you did it in under a year. Bravo. More people should follow your advice.

I think most people would be willing to overlook minor errors when your overall content is good quality, original and at least somewhat unique.

Agreed! Most people will overlook minor stuff. I still find errors in my work all the time - I hate that lol.

very nice article. But I would like to share something that I had recently read somewhere, that the best way to write is not to write and edit at the same time. Once you start writing you keep writing your article as it comes to your mind, and once it’s done then one must sit and edit it. This way a person does not get bored writing the article and his idea are not lost while editing at the same time as writing.

Yeah actually if you read the previous post that I linked to here I talked about that! If I don’t edit my posts in a different session I tend to miss more mistakes.

At the end of the day, what you communicate is more important than how you do it. The banter above proves that.

In my ancient avatar as a sales manager, I used to receive some great reports and some with a great deal of spelling and grammatical mistakes. Guess who were the star salesmen?

I agree 100% with that. People can write convincing copy without everything being perfect.

I love the fact that you’re always humble and willing to let your success along with your failures just hang out there for people to see and to learn from.
