Your Thoughts On The BloggingZoom Copy/Paste Rule

February 13th, 2008 by Court

As many of you know, we have a rule in place at BloggingZoom that doesn’t allow you to copy and paste your submissions. We are in the process of re-examining that rule and would love to hear your thoughts. If you have an opinion one way or the other, please head over to the post and be heard!

Ultimately, we are going to go with what the community wants on the issue. Here’s the post: BloggingZoom Copy/Paste Rule – Please Give Us Your Thoughts.

To be honest Court, when I first heard Vic talking about it (which was after the hackjob), I thought it was stupid.

However, I did realize why you and Vic put that rule into place. Now that I’ve submitted some of my stuff as well as a few from others, the purpose of the rule really sinks in.

I’m in favor of it now that I realize how it will give us one more shot at creating unique content that can be found by search engines. My vote is to keep it NO Cut and Paste.

If someone doesn’t want to take a minute to write a short summary, is their article all that important anyway?

BTW, the last time I tried to use BZ with IE6, I couldn’t write anything in the content field. I have to use BZ with Firefox in order to write text in the content field.

Thanks for BZ, I look forward to using it more in the future.

Don

When I had first tried to submit to BZ I thought this no copy and paste rule was pretty stupid as well, especially since I usually just copy and paste the content from my All in One SEO Pack plugin, but like Don, I’m now a fan of the idea. Most social networking sites are just copies of copies and BZ wants to stand aside from that, which I like.

Your asking the masses what they want? If they new the right thing to do they wouldn’t need BZ! I want you the experts to tell me whats best. I will use BZ because it works. Why are you taking a risk that might put the entire program at risk. You know the right thing is to NOT allow Copy and Paste. Can you imagine the negative press on a duplicate content ruling?

Thanks for all your wisdom.

Hey Court,

I think it is a speed factor for some people. I just started becoming a bit more aggressive with SMM. I am just now working out all of the kinks.

I signed up for an account at BloggingZoom the other day and found the cut and paste to be a bit cumbersome. Actually, I left before I got my first entry in. But, that may be because I was working with 5 other SM sites at once. A bit burned out as well.

I guess my question is, who is benefiting by the unique content? If the unique content benefite the publisher then maybe it should be their choice. If the unique content benefits BloggingZoom and therefore the BloggingZoom community then maybe you should keep the restrictions.

Ultimately, it is up to you guys. But, the more cumbersome the process is, fewer people are likely to use the service.

I have not spent much time at BloggingZoom so I know little about the community. What I mention above is only personal experience.

I have no problem with the rule, but don’t think a character count script would hurt (I understand it’s in the works somewhere though). Is there a particular reason for the minimum 350 character? It might be better to remove it, and maybe advise at least 350 chars instead. People may or may not do it, and may or may not get a potential benefit, but I don’t see that not having the requirement would necessarily hurt anything.

bloggingzoom is nothing but an unfair environment for the typical blogger, guest voting is nothing but a website trying to make their selves look better then they really are! Not to mention it’s VERY EAY TO CHEAT

Guest voting is so unfair and wrong! I prefer blogengage, far better and allows for you to guest blog as well

Good luck with that crap site!
