Using an opt-in newsletter mailing list to market to 'lookers' is another effective idea. I like your idea of using the free blog as a way to market too and there could certainly be some crossover between a newsletter mailer and a blog's RSS. If you buy a domain that isn't indexed, it will act just like a brand new domain.
