I have had a lot of success with ranking phrases that match up the domain you purchase. IMO that is the best way to get your rankings rolling and that phrase is typically less susceptible to Google sandboxing in the first 3-6 months. You really are giving Google what they're asking for, it's just truth in advertising as long as your site is of a certain quality and doesn't trip any spam filters.

First can I say thank you for such an informative & helpful article!
I have one question regarding competition for the #1 spot: I keep finding sites in #1 that have a PR of 0 but their domain age is very old - does this make it a lot harder to overtake them? I'm guessing it does

Court, since it is sometime you have written this post, can you give us an estimate of how much daily traffic you are getting as well as what was the adsense income for a 30 day period? Did you achieve the $400/month mark?

Please do share as this will be of great help.

Thanks

I noticed that currently the site is PR2 and outranks a PR4 site, although your site has around 100 more backlinks. Am I correct in assuming that when sizing up the competition, one shouldn't be scared away by the PR?

Graety work man! thats a good achievement in and out of sandbox then to be number #1. Thanks for pointing to Keyword sniping, have heard of it but never looked into it. It is a technique that I will be trying on my next site.

But wasn't the whole idea to show that with a good strategy you can snipe a keyword and make it a source of income, without too much work? I mean Court claims to only have put five hours in...

Hey Court. Thanks for your easy to follow work. I have been thinking of a few things when it comes to your ideas of setting up niche sites:

I design my site for let's say "colorado lasik surgery", and choose the domain coloradolasiksurgeryguide.com.

1) If I suddenly would want to expand my niche to include another keyword, ie "pasadena lasik surgery" - should I then register a new domain for the new keyword, or just start getting links with the new keyword, directed to the old site?

2) In case you I the opurtunity to expand my keyword space later (ie colorado + pasadena), would it be more beneficial to beforehand register something more general, let's say "allaboutlasik.com"?

As you see I am aiming at the question "how do I handle more than one keywordphrase with lots of similarities?". Split into several or join?
