Networker 1.0

Notes: Networker 1.0 is one of the top10 most popular blogs from the main WordPress theme site. Like most of the other themes on the top10 list, the theme is very clean and required few changes to pass the ‘Court test’. I really like that the really popular themes are themes that don’t have shady links and text in them. This theme was 100% free of anything shady.
The designer used h2 tags in the sidebar, and I changed those to h3s. I also set the theme up for use with the SEO Title Tag plugin and/or the All-In-One SEO plugin.
Africa Theme 1

Notes: Africa Theme 1 is one of the most popular WordPress themes of all time. That shouldn’t surprise anyone, what a beautiful theme! This theme can definitey make your site stand out, but obviously can’t be used by every type of site.
You wouldn’t want to use this theme if you blogged about cell phones or gadgets, you get the idea.
Mistylook

Notes: Mistylook is a very clean theme, and the original designer did a great job with it. The latest trend I’ve been seeing is that designers will embed hidden, spammy links. This theme didn’t have any of the shady stuff I often find. It was, in fact quite search engine friendly already. It’s now even more search engine friendly. ![]()
Modern Paper 1.0
November 26th, 2007 by adminClick Here To Download Modern Paper 1.0

Notes: Modern Paper 1.0 is simple, basic, and very professional. This theme took minimal work to pass my test and I give mad props to the designer for that. This designer actually knew what he/she was doing.
There was no hidden text in this theme, and it was laid out by someone that knew what they were doing. This theme didn’t exactly fit my SEO taste, but I can tell that it was done with SEO in mind.
I did make some changes which I think will make the theme compete better for keywords. I made it so that the name of the site was enclosed in <h1> tags, so as long as you include your main keyword in the name of your blog that will help you to rank for it. In order to make this effective I changed the post titles to <h2> tags and the headings in the sidebars to <h3> tags.
This theme now gets an A+ from me, I can’t think of a single way it could be better.
Prosense Redux

Notes: Prosense Redux was a very clean theme when I got my hands on it. It needed only minimal tweaking which included getting rid of some of the excess H2 tags. The sidebars were positioned properly and the H1 tag was setup perfectly.
If you have the original Prosense Redux you’re probably in pretty good shape. This version is slightly better, however, so it would be worth switching it out.
Connections

Notes: Connections was in decent shape before I got my hands on it. In general the themes that have the sidebar on the right are better for SEO, unless you know how to tweak the ones with the sidebar on the left.
The main issue with the Connections theme is that it uses the H2 tag everywhere. My version alters the placement of the H2 tag to make it work better. I also removed all of the less-effective spots where the H2 popped up.
I also noticed that the comments section needed to be reworked. You definitely don’t want H2 tags placed in the comments since you don’t control the content in comments. This version should do a lot better in search results than the original.
ILoveMusic

Notes: ILoveMusic had a few SEO strengths before I made some changes to it. It unfortunately had some weaknesses that needed to be fixed.
In the header file, I noticed that this theme was set up to use the blog’s description for both meta keywords and meta description, which I wouldn’t recommend. That would create the same meta keywords and description for every page, which would be bad. It would likely cause many of a site’s pages to end up in Google’s supplemental index. I fixed this issue first thing. This theme has the blog’s name wrapped in H1 tags, which is good. I left that alone. The theme also had H2 tags around the post titles, which was perfect.
The comments section was clean and used H3 tags, which is good.
The sidebar was the area that needed the most attention, it used H2s to wrap each section, which is bad because it dilutes the effectiveness of the H2 tag on the post title. I changed the <h2> wraps to <span> tags and altered the style sheet to make everything look identical to the way it did before.
The archive and category pages already showed excerpts, which is important to avoid a duplicate content penalty. I left those alone.
Spotlight 1.3

Notes: The original Spotlight 1.3 had some fundamental issues, including a poor SEO title tag setup, and bad use of H1 and H2 tags.
I revamped the H tags to better emphasize the purpose of each page to the search engines. I removed quite a few of the H2 tags and changed them to H3s, so that there would be more emphasis on the post titles, which have now been set to H2s. The way the H2 tags were setup previously, they would have had no effect whatsoever.
