Have you ever wondered why no one closes the deal on your affiliate links on your site? I sure have and it really bugs the hell out of me! I mean, I take the time go build this great niche site, search high and low online for the perfect, and I mean perfect, affiliate program. It is so sweet, great payouts for leads, and a really good PPC ratio too!
But, no one ever closes the deal on it! I get a few clicks, but why won’t those damn people buy!
Here are my 5 reasons why your affiliate program sucks, and I hope you can learn something from this article to educate yourself about why no one clicks and buys from your niche site.
Reason 5:
Your splash or landing page takes 5 people to take turns scrolling to get to the bottom of it. If I was searching for something online and come upon a site that is marketing a product or service to me, give me the quickie run down on it. I would hope that it would take no more than a couple of scrolls of my mouse wheel to find important information, such as the price, what it will and won’t do, and any guarantees or warranties with the product.
If I have to look over and see that it is going to be a huge scrolling ordeal through all of the ramblings on the page without telling me the basics, I won’t continue reading. Besides, with all of the free templates for Wordpress out there, quit having your 12 year old cousin design your crappy sites with tables.
Reason 4:
Your products don’t really pertain to what your niche site is built for. What I mean by this is unless you have lots of space on your site for other products, stick to the affiliate programs that are targeted for your keywords. The more spread out your advertising is with your affiliate programs, the less ads you have for people to click through, thus leading to a good sale or turnover.
Sure, you could target “how to make money online” all day long, but if your keywords are for “how to make money online selling widgets” then you have better have lots of affiliate ads on your site for how to sell widgets.
Reason 3:
You spend to much time analyzing and messing with your site instead of promoting it. Once you have your domain name and your site up and running, quit messing with it. Leave it alone and concentrate on getting good quality backlinks and improving your SERP’s ranking. The more time you waste NOT promoting your site means the less income you could possibly be making.
Reason 2:
Not fully researching your keywords and niche can be a real killer. Just because you find underwater basket weaving to be an incredibly exciting niche doesn’t mean that you will get lots of hits for it. Sure, there might be 5 to 10 searches a day for it, but what are people gonna buy for that niche? Scuba gear or basket making supplies? Maybe you should target those niches instead. You need to rethink your keywords and really target some long tails for success in areas like this.
Reason 1:
The main reason your affiliate program sucks is because there are more people advertising for it with Google Adwords than it will be worth trying to promote on your niche site for free.
You should really check out the competition for your niche completely and thoroughly before choosing an affiliate program. Just because the affiliate program pays out $15 per lead doesn’t mean you will be successful with it. Check and see what the other competition is doing for their programs. Which ones are they using? Where are their ad placements? Is the market saturated with your product and what are people saying the product or service?
The best method that I use when I am trying to find a good niche is to do a google search for it. Check out the ads that come up in the search and see if those are already marketing your product or service. Check out the competition sites on the first couple of pages in the search results. Can you compete with them? Will you be able to overtake them in the SERP’s?
In Conclusion:
Affiliate Marketing and Niche Marketing can be really rewarding and fun. It’s a great challenge also, and if you are up to a challenge and have the patience to do some work, then you will be richly rewarded for it.
