With the changes of technology, also come more advances in the business world. There are so many new and easy ways available to stay in contact with someone or to get to know them better, across the country and across the globe. But with this technology, there are also many mistakes that can be made and issues will always arise. But, if you use this technology to your advantage, there will be nothing but great benefits.

One of these tools that can be simple and easy to use is e-mail. Even though it may seem basic and way too simple, using e-mail to create your professional network is a great option. There are few things to keep in mind though before you send of just any random e-mail to a large group of people.

Personalize Your Emails

Try to make the e-mail personable and short and sweet. People get a large amount of spam everyday, so your e-mail needs to stand out and be different from all others. You will want to try and make it personal, so the person can connect with you. But at the same time, don’t make it too personal the first time you write someone.

Think about it from your own perspective. How would you feel if you randomly got an e-mail from a stranger inviting you to be their friend and baring their deep dark secrets? You most likely would delete it after reading the first few words. Write a personal e-mail without divulging too much information. Try sending it to a friend and getting some feedback on if they think it contains too much information or not enough.

What Your Network Sees Should Be What Your Network Gets

Also be clear and honest about your intentions. If you are strictly looking for business, state that. People respond well to honesty. And the best thing about being honest is it is always a lot more believable. When you are clear and straight about things, people will be able to understand and even relate to what you are saying to them. You will get a lot more responses from people if you are honest and don’t feed them a lot of lies or exaggerations, especially in the professional world.

If you are looking to trade links then be open and forward about it. If you are looking to exchange information about blogging or SEO ideas then say it. If you want them to purchase something from you or become an affiliate then just tell them.

Another tip is to not abuse the network. If you are sending out daily e-mails to the same people, they are going to get sick and tired of your constant e-mails, especially if they are not interested in getting to know you. This could have negative affects rather than positive, so try to take no reply as a no and stop bothering them.

Remember People And Their Generosity

When someone does reply to you, thank them for their time and efforts. A little gratitude will go a long way and help build a relationship of trust. Think of the way you would like to be responded to in such a situation. By being kind and real, people will appreciate you more.

These are just a few, simple tips to keep in mind when using e-mail to broaden your horizons. But, in most cases, there may be a lot of trial and error before finding the right method for you. But don’t get discouraged. Just keep changing things until you get the right response.
