Hey there,

Andrew from Drum Set Resource here, with an update for all you folks. I found Court’s Marketing Blog about a month ago, and I’m already making a sizable sum per-day. That’s right, about five hours of work paid for coffee every day for some time to come. I’m not even getting high rankings on Google yet! My keyword “drum sets” is pretty broad, so it might take some time. But advertiser interest is high, and I’m starting to get 5-10 visitors from other related keywords on Google. Equity is high.

Embrace your Special Skills

What I wanted to talk to you about is the content of your website, and how the importance of it is often underestimated. When I started Drum Set Resource.com, I had already been an orchestral percussionist / drum set player for quite some time, so the fit was natural. Of course, you don’t have to be an expert in your field, but it will help you write quality content without researching it everywhere first, which is a godsend.

Content of the Week

One of the best things I’ve implemented in my web site(s) are the content of the week posts. While this makes your work load a little greater, it keeps the content fresh and keeps your visitors flowing to your web site. More repeat visitors means a lower CTR, but it also means more backlinks, because fresh content gets fresh links. I’ll give you an example. I have a post series called “Drum Sets (my keyword) Video of the Week“. When I put up my first drum set video of the week, it was a fair amount of work getting the initial people to view the site. I went around to all the drum set forums, finding relevant posts from people looking for ideas for solos, etc. Now that I’m on my third or fourth post of the week, I’ve been finding that almost 40% of page hits have no referral link, and go from http://www.drumsetresource.com to http://www.drumsetresource.com/?page_id=20 . This is 40% of my visitor base, and if even three percent of them click on ads, that’s extra cyclical revenue I didn’t have to work for. You do the math!

Categories

Make sure to categorize your posts of the week into one big archive that people can access easily. Put them all in one page, to make them more visible to both search engines and your visitors. I use the Inline Posts plugin to control what can go on a word press page.

I hope these tips will help you maximize visitor turnaround. Feel free to email me any questions. A big thanks to Court, as well, for not being afraid to share the magic.

-Andrew
