If you are just now asking yourself, “What is Facebook?” then, you have missed out on a lot of opportunities. If you are now realizing how great the potential of networking through Facebook is, join today! Don’t miss out on more opportunities for success! But there are a few things to keep in mind when starting out with Facebook and trying out your new networking techniques.

Create A Profile

When you join Facebook, you set up your own profile. Try to make this as professional as possible if you are want people to take you seriously. If you are trying to be serious and professional with someone but as soon as they check out your profile they see pictures of your last party or you hanging out with your friends, they may not take you as seriously as you had hoped for.

If you want to have a separate profile for your friends to see all the crazy and fun things you do, set it up separately. Keep your personal life separate from your professional side.

While making your profile professional, also don’t be afraid to tell people what you are all about and where you are going in life. There is a section specifically designed to tell others all about you, so do it! You can also list other websites that you want them to see or include an invitation to others to invite you to be their friend. Don’t be afraid to show your best side to those who may be looking.

No Spam

Another thing to think about is spam. Facebook will get rid of you pretty quick if you are spreading a lot spam to other users. This is why there are 35 million users on Facebook—it is spam free! Don’t just join and start sending messages with your business info to every person you can. Besides annoying the members, the creators of Facebook have a very strict policy that they uphold and you will be kicked out quicker than you think.

Instead of spamming members, create groups that have something to do with your business or website. Inviting others to join your group is a great way to avoid spam and get people looking at your profile or group. Post on the group your website and other important details that they need to know.

Creating Groups

If you create a group, post an invitation to your group on other similar groups. You may have to join several different groups in order to do this, but in the end, it will get a lot more people looking at what you have to offer.

Keep things interesting and lively by paying attention to details. If you create a group, get conversation going and invite others to participate. If you are checking your Facebook only once a day, it may not be enough. Keep things going and pay attention to everything that is happening.

If no conversation is going, people will leave the group. The reason they join a group is to give them something to do and something to talk about. Start conversations and constantly invite others to join the group.
